The Amherst County Lions Club worked with 18 families once the tornado hit the area on April 15th.  We received 2 grants from the Lions of Virginia Foundation plus a donation from our club and from the Massies Mill Ruritan Club.  The first 10 families received gift cards each week for 6 weeks from the first grant and some donations.  The last week of working with these families another grant was received and 8 more families were added to the distribution of these funds.  These families are also receiving gift cards for 6 weeks.  The families received from $200 to $300 in a gift card each week to help with their immediate needs such as food, clothing, water, etc.  The amount was determined by the size of their household.  The club distributed $25,500 at the end of all of the distributions.
